Hobgoblin Music shop arrived in Brighton in 2014 and has been in Sussex since 1976, since the company was first founded in Crawley, West Sussex.. The Brighton branch offers Hobgoblin’s huge range of new and secondhand folk and acoustic musical instruments, in a splendid location a 3 minute walk down the road from Brighton’s main train station, so quick to get to from Hove, Lewes, Worthing, Crawley and Haywards Heath, and an easy stroll from both the North Laines and the Churchill Shopping Centre.

Proud to be a Brighton guitar shop, we also specialise in folk and acoustic instruments. Visit Hobgoblin Music in Brighton for a unique mix of well known and unusual instruments and accessories, from D’Addario and Ernie Ball guitar strings, to handpans, tongue drums, balalaikas and more.   We stock acoustic, classical, flamenco and resonator guitars by Cort, Cordoba, Regal, Blueridge, Ashbury and Carvalho, mandolins, banjos, bouzoukis, folk and classical woodwind, bodhrans and cajons, and an ever changing range of unique secondhand instruments of all types. We offer repair services for most instruments too, with our repairer specialising in free reed instruments. If you love musical instruments, a trip to Hobgoblin Music is a must for a day in spent Brighton.

We are on Queens Road, which is the main route from Brighton’s main railway station into the city, or to the North Laines.

By train: Head South from the station, we’re on the left about three minutes down the road.

From the beach on foot: Head up West Street, past North Street and the Clock Tower and continue up Queen’s Road to find us on the right hand side, just after North Road.

By Bus: Most of the city’s buses stop either at the Churchill shopping centre or the train station, and we’re a very short walk from either. Several buses including the 6, 7, 12 and 47 stop on Queen’s Road right near our shop.

By car: The city’s NCP carparks are very convenient to the shop but a little bit pricey. There’s one just round the corner on North Road but we’d recommend either the London Road or Train Station car parks as they’re slightly more reasonably priced.

We do repairs! We carry out some instrument repair work on site, and can also send instruments to specialist repairers for more complicated work. Repair work undertaken includes ukulele, bouzouki, mandolin and guitar setups and restringing, accordion, melodeon and concertina tuning and repairs, woodwind and brass repairs and maintenance, specialist violin set ups and repairs, bridge and peg fitting, bow rehairs, banjo or drum skin replacement, and much more besides – contact us for information or bring in your instrument for a free, no-obligation quote.

If you're looking to sell a musical instrument then get in touch to see what we can offer you. We buy some instruments outright if the price is right, and we'll consider a trade-in for almost any instrument. We also take lots of instruments on a commission basis, and we're particularly keen to stock instruments by local luthiers and makers. Bring in your unwanted guitars, ukuleles, banjos, concertinas, melodeons, accordions, flutes, woodwind and brass instruments, violins, keyboards and more, and we'll see what we can do for you! If your instrument is bulky or you would need to travel a fair way to get to us, please do contact us by email or phone first so we can let you know whether it's worth bringing in.

We are often able to offer short or long term musical instrument rentals for various types of instrument. If you would like to rent a musical instrument from us, please get in touch to find out how we can help.

There are many teachers listed on our site that specialise in a range of instruments including: Free Reed, Frets, Guitar, Percussion, Piano, Strings, Vocal and Woodwind.

We're Brighton's largest music shop, and we make it our goal to be the most friendly and the most useful too!  We stock a massive range of musical accessories, including strings, cases, bags, straps, stands and more for all kinds of instruments.  Each member of staff has their own area of expertise, and all of us are ready to advise - no question is too silly, so don't be afraid to ask.

We’re also proud to work with a great local music venue,  The Folklore Rooms, as their official sponsor. Located just down the road from us above The Quadrant Pub, The Folklore Rooms is a place for music lovers and performers to unite in a space dedicated to their craft. It’s a beautiful venue perfect for intimate folk shows as well as full band shows. The space is equipped with top of the line sound & lighting equipment, cared for by their dedicated team of in-house engineers. At 60/70 capacity TFR is a beautifully intimate and unique performance space which is home to their monthly showcase nights, as well as wide range of shows and events.
