1977 was a special year, there was Punk, the birth of Star Wars, the Morecambe and Wise Christmas special getting 28 million viewers and the Silver Jubilee.

However something else was happening, something equally as exciting and important. The Hobgoblin Crawley shop opened its doors to the World.

Crawley was the first Hobgoblin Music shop (there are now eight - not including Crawley) and where everything really started. As the only shop of its kind anywhere at that time, Hobgoblin in Crawley attracted customers from all over the UK and all over the world, helped by its proximity to Gatwick airport. Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin even popped by, along with Richard Stilgoe - though not at the same time, that would have been some cross over and a band line up I am sure we would all be thrilled to witness.

However all good things must come to an end and after 38 years we decided to relocate to Brighton and start a new and exciting chapter.

So on Saturday Hobgoblin Crawley closed its doors for the very last time.

We are very happy that Crawley manager Nobby Styles and our melodeon expert Matt Quinn have decided to come with us to Brighton, so you will see some familiar faces when you visit our new shop!

If you have any fond memories of our shop in Crawley, we'd love to hear them - please email us with your stories: post@hobgoblin.co.uk

We would like to take another opportunity to thank every single customer that walked through those doors over the years and we sincerely hope to see you all in Brighton.

So it's a case of goodbye Crawley, but hello Brighton - see you there!
